Living Soil Tunnel and Soil Kiosk
Educational Exhibits on Soil Resources
What does it feel like to be underground? Here is your opportunity to try it out. A “soil tunnel” created of wood frame and foam is available for children and adults of all ages. As you walk through the tunnel you can hear about our soil resource from a CD. Inside you can view photos of microorganisms and enjoy the varied colored soil horizons.
Once you complete your tour through the tunnel stop by the soils kiosk. This three sided kiosk features monoliths (trays of soil horizons) from two very different Minnesota soils. You can also test your soils knowledge on the soil quiz!
Both the soil tunnel and soil kiosk offer fun education on our soil resources. These exhibits are sponsored by many local organizations including Nicollet County, Three Rivers Resource Conservation and Development, Sibley Soil and Water Conservation District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Blue Earth River Basin Initiative, Rush River Clean Water Partnership, Center and Lily Creek Clean Watershed Partnership, Martin Soil and Water Conservation District, and local county and conservation districts.
